Maine’s Shellfish Industry Suffers Serious Toxic Algae Bloom – Products Recalled

The Portland Press Herald is reporting that an unusual algae bloom is producing a potentially life threatening toxin, domoic acid.

Shellfish beds have been closed along an extensive section of Maine’s Downeast coast in response to this outbreak, and  Maine’s Department of Marine Resources has issued a recall of mussels, clams, and mahogany quahogs.
